Natalie and Ben's August wedding at Wild Basin Lodge (a scenic mountain lodge in Boulder County) was one of the luckiest I've seen in terms of weather! After arriving at 2pm in a light sprinkle, the rain dissipated for the couple's first look, photos with family and wedding party, and ceremony. As the ceremony ended they walked back to the lodge in a light rain beneath an umbrella. As soon as all of the guests were inside - and the beverage llamas had done their job handing out beers and hard seltzers! - a wild rain and hail storm erupted outside. Guests stood on the balcony with appetizers and cocktails watching the torrential downpour fall on the aspen grove and St. Vrain river just beyond the venue.
There were many thoughtful details incorporated into this wedding day. By virtue of Ben's brother Jay being a rabbi, Ben and Natalie were treated to two beautiful Jewish ceremonies. First the signing of their Jewish marriage contract, or ketubah, surrounded by family. Then a ceremony beneath a chuppah with a symbolic breaking of glass in front of all of their wedding guests. They chose to break glass from a Boulder-based company called B Gold Glass. After smashing hand-blown glass you return the broken pieces to the studio to be remade into a keepsake sun as a honey jar (delicious with challah, especially during your first year of marriage!), water pitcher or vase.
Other details I loved? Their wedding bands were textured to mimic aspen bark - a nod to the aspen groves surrounding Wild Basin Lodge. The couple sang a duet accompanied by an uncle on acoustic guitar. I had chills! After a family-style meal, cupcakes were served and guests roamed the lodge from the fireplace to the photo booth to the dance floor, which remained high energy all night. The couple had invited a live band to play an epic 25 minute hora song while the newlyweds were hoisted above the crowd.
Natalie and Ben, congratulations again on a beautiful wedding. It was a joy and an honor to be invited to document your day!
